Course Overview
A Health Care Assistant (HCA) course is designed to prepare individuals to provide personal and practical care to patients in hospitals, care homes, or private residences. HCAs support nurses and other health professionals by assisting with day-to-day tasks such as hygiene, mobility, feeding, and monitoring health conditions.
Course Objective
By the end of the course, learners should be able to:
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a Health Care Assistant
- Deliver personal care (e.g., bathing, dressing, toileting) with dignity and respect
- Monitor vital signs such as temperature, pulse, and respiration
- Assist patients with mobility and exercise
- Support nutritional needs and feeding
- Recognize signs of health deterioration and report appropriately
- Apply infection control procedures and health & safety protocols
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the health care team
- Promote patient independence and well-being

- Full-Time: 1 to 9 months
- Part-Time / Evening: 6 to 12 months
